"To see music as autonomous from its context would be naive"

As one music commentator notes ...It is in human relationships that the richest source of creativity

is to be found. (Christopher Small, 1987).

Mike McCarthy blends elements of blues and folk roots. His style is uniquely Australian and the listener is left conjuring images of the coastline and the rugged country from which he hails.

In 2003 McCarthy's music featured on the influential surf film 'Lines from a Poem'. The film, along

with Mike's music has made a profound impact on lovers of fine film and song the world over.

In the year 2006, McCarthy constructed his third full length studio album Calm Wind. Along with his previous releases Fire Flood Freedom and Shelter and the Sea, Calm Wind has been released in Japan through Urban Dingo and in Australia through Significant Records.

Supports over the last year with Amos Less, Eric Bibb, Mia Dyson and Jeff Lang have helped McCarthy grow as a first class musician and entertainer.

"Music can touch people at a primal level - evoking different emotions and triggering memories of particular places and times.

Music is such a part of our emotional makeup - it can make you patriotic, it can make you want to fight,

it can make you want to cry"
