Luke O’Shea has toured
constantly for the last fifteen years, waltzing his Matilda
all-over. Be it following the magical Native American Indian
‘Pow-Wow’ circuit throughout Canada and the US, up in the remote
Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander communities of Far North
Queensland or simply busking on the streets and pubs of Ireland,
England, France, Japan, Bermuda… music is the beautiful
rollercoaster ride that Luke and the boys of ‘Medicine Wheel’ are
currently riding up and up and up.
“Listen to the words!”
Was his father’s constant retort when Luke, as a child, would plead
with him to play something other than ‘country music’. Years later
with the wisdom of hindsight, those songs and the rich stories
within Country music have fuelled him on to write and perform real
stories and songs from the heart, that attempt to console and relate
to the listener, allowing the wonderful world of the imagination to
open up and take flight.
In 2002, ‘Luke O’Shea
and Medicine Wheels’ first single ‘No Day Like Today’, the title
track from their debut album, led to them being signed with
ABC/Universal Music Australia and managed to get them a ticket as
finalists, to the 2003 ‘Golden Guitars’ (as Best Band/Duo) and then,
in the same year, to the entertainment industry’s prestigious ‘Mo’
Awards.
Luke O’Shea & Medicine
Wheel and their latest aptly named album ‘Listen to the Words’, are
stunning audiences and critics everywhere as they try to define and
categorize their unique songs and sound. Their last single ‘Ragged
Bloody Heroes’ hit the No.1 position on CMC, pushing aside major
artists like Tim McGraw and John Mellencamp and their last four
singles have all entered the National Country Music Charts ‘Top 10’.
In 2005, 2006 and 2007
they have been top five finalists in the nationwide ‘Music Oz’
Awards for Best Country Act. In 2007 they won the coveted TIARA
Award for Best Country Band as well as achieving Top 4 Finalists in
2006 and 2007 for ‘Australian Independent Group/Duo of the Year’ and
‘Australian Independent Album of the Year’ at the Mildura
Independent Music Awards.
Luke O’Shea and the
members of Medicine Wheel ~ due to their constant touring,
exciting live shows and well crafted songs, have gained ‘the must
see’ reputation at Country Music Festivals throughout Australia and
abroad.
